The
African Union – United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), held a
memorial ceremony, in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, to honor the
seven fallen peacekeepers who lost their lives in the 13 July attack in
South Darfur. The bodies are scheduled to be repatriated to Tanzania,
the home country of the fallen peacekeepers. In addition to the seven
killed, 17 military and police personnel were wounded, among them two
female Police Advisors, all of whom are recovering from their injuries
in UNAMID’s hospital in Nyala, South Darfur.
On 14 July 2013, following a 13 July
attack in which seven military peacekeepers of the African Union -
United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) were killed and 17 military
and Police personnel wounded, among them two female Police Advisers,
Joint Special Representative Mohamed Ibn Chambas visited the wounded
peacekeepers at UNAMID’s hospital in Nyala to provide encouragement and
